Siege of Tobruk[]

Letters to Martin[]

Dear Martin,

Even here we have heard of the Tiger tank, but everything has its weakness, son. I'm sure you boys will find it.

In the mean time, write to your mother and little more often, you know how she worries.

Your proud dad.

Survival Notes: Managing Heart Rate[]

When unseen by the enemy, keep a low profile and move slowly. You'll be much harder to spot, even when they're alerted to your presence. As an added bonus, slower movement will help control your breathing to maintain a lower heart rate which will, in turn, allow you to fire steadier shots.

The Führer's Visit[]

It's true, the Führer is on his way. The timing is less than ideal, but we will be ready.

A few of the officers laughed derisively at the news. A couple dared to suggest it would be one of his rumored doubles. Some men arrived earlier after seeing him elsewhere, but their opinions are divided. I don't really know what to believe. Perhaps Kuhn's messenger will have the answer.

Observing The Target: Preparations[]

This is madness. the Führer can't be on his way to Tobruk, of all places. Why would he leave the safety of Berlin? No one else thinks to question this, so now we must prepare a feast and find wines worthy of him. Then again. I'm pretty sure he doesn't touch alcohol.

Never mind. If no one else is going to ask any questions, neither am I.

Observing The Target: At dinner[]

When I was last in Berlin, I was present at a dinner attended by the Führer. The thought of seeing him here is strange, much as it was to see him in relaxed company then. For some reason, I thought it remarkable to see the great leader pick up his spoon with his right hand and drink soup like a normal person.

Observing The Target: Unexpected Reward[]

Let's be honest here. I didn't ever expect to be rewarded for quitting smoking. I only did it to stop Frida's nagging. My coughing has ceased, so that's another improvement. But to receive a watch - pure gold - from the Führer for quitting ... I had heard rumours, but never believed they'd be true.

Perspectives: Idol Worship[]

I've heard what the others have said - the Führer in North Africa is nothing but a double. I was part of the welcome party for our leader's arrival and I know the man who presented me with the Iron Cross. The man on his way to Tobruk is no double.

Perspectives: Navy or Army?[]

I could have sworn Herr Hitler was in the Bavarian Army in the First World War - one of the Reserve Regiments. yet earlier today he was sharing the story of how he fought in the battle of the Skagerrak, aboard the SMS Derfflinger. I'd check, but I don't know who I'd ask.

Perspectives: Severe punishment[]

Stupid Robrecht. He should have known Disobeying the Führer is never a good idea.

Then again, none of us expected the order to have him hanged.

Stupid, foolish man.

Perspectives: Seen smoking[]

It can't be true. Our leader ... smoking? I saw it with my own two eyes, but it cannot be. Everyone knows of his distaste for tobacco and those who smoke it. Yet there he was, as clear as day, lighting up and taking a deep breath.

Perspectives: Unshaven Führer[]

You owe me 2 Reichsmark, Lucas. I was in a camp to the west when the Führer arrived for a surprise inspection late in the evening yesterday. And guess what? He had an untended stubble over his jawline. He would never visit his troops unshaven.

Perspectives: Vegetarian leader[]

It's a good thing I stumbled into the kitchen earlier. The men were busy preparing an extravagant meaty stew. We can't afford such carelessness. The look on the Führer's face yesterday when someone dared put a steak in front of him chilled me. I'm surprised he didn't have the man hung and quartered for negligence.
