M24

The M24 Stielhandgranate (Model 24 "stick hand grenade") is the default Hand Grenade in Sniper Elite, Sniper Elite V2, Sniper Elite III, Sniper Elite 4, Sniper Elite 5 and Zombie Army Trilogy.

Description[]

Stielhandgranate is the German term for "stick hand grenade" and generally refers to a prominent series of World War I and World War II–era German stick grenade designs, distinguished by their long wooden handles, pull cord arming and cylindrical warheads. The first models were introduced by the Imperial German Army during World War I and the final design was introduced during World War II by the German Wehrmacht. The distinctive appearance of the Stielhandgranate family has led to them being called "potato mashers" in British Army slang.

To use them soldier should remove metal cap at bottom of stick, pull short rope with plastic ball at end to activate fuse and throw grenade. M24 are commonly seen in Sniper Elite series. Used by both enemies and player, those grenades are deadly weapons. Unlike most grenades, M24 don't produce a lot of fragments, instead those grenades relay on powerfull explosive charge, creating bigger explosion than most, but with lesser fragmentation.

Overview[]

Grenade shot V2 German

Grenade shot.

In all games, excluding original Sniper Elite, random German soldiers may wear them on blets or straps. In SEv2, SE III and SE4, enemies mostly wear grenades on front chest part of their harness, some may wear 2 at same time. In SE4 and SE5 however, enemies wear grenades more commonly on their belts, and much more rarely on harness.

Grenades are used by Infantry, Jägers and Elites, who can toss M24 at player to flush em out of cover. In SE5 some Officers wear them on belts as well, especialy Jager Officers and Engineer Officers, but they were not seen using them.

If enemy is wearing grenade, player can shoot it causing explosion, killing wearer and inflicting heavy, most often but no always fatal, damage to soldiers surronding exploded one.

Grenades in SE4 and SE5 can be thrown back at the enemy (in SE5 after throwback perk is unlocked), and used at replacement for mines while making traps on corpses and telephones / alarm switches.

Zombie Army[]

Grenades are also commonly seen in Zombie Army, sometimes worn by zombiefied grunts, but more prominently seen on Suicide Grunts and Suiciders, who wear them all over their bodies and explode in kamikaze fashion when near player.

Also, Grenadiers are another case of zombie using grenades. They have apparently unlimited supply of them and use them to blow playe apart.

Tesla Grenade[]

In Zombie Army 4 DLC's variant of Suicider wearing retro-futuristic variant of grenade is encoutered. Theirs M24 grenades apper to have dark metal "sticks" and blue, transparent, glass possibly, cylinders over some coils inside, where normaly explosive charge would be. Those wierd grenades explode with electicity and make enemies around them electrified.

Trivia[]

  • Grenades are most commonly used by Infantry, while Elites / Jagers use them rarely, but in more strategic way. When infantry tosses grenades just to wound player, Elites and Jagers use them to flush player out of cover, showing their better training and/or more expreince in combat.
  • When thrown, models dont change, and thrown grenades still have metal cap on bottom of stick.
